Our client is a global, cutting-edge technology company, and household name in roadside assistance, whose mission is to safeguard drivers through a combination of platform intelligence and human powered solutions. In doing so, our client protects 100 plus million vehicles in partnership with leading Automobile manufacturers and Insurance carriers.

With exciting plans for further growth across all regions of the business, our client is looking to now appoint a Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer to join their already talented technology team.

The Role

Based at home, with occasional, visits to the office, you will work closely as part of the technology delivery ‘squads’, teams of 3-5 engineers, to build and extend a client facing open API to provide roadside assistance to everything from connected vehicles to Insurance Apps. You will help develop the models, business logic, and GraphQL API layer to provide a highly available and scalable platform to run the roadside assistance model our client has built over the past 3 years. You will also help our client technically lead a small team of engineers and projects from start to finish.

Responsibilities

Our client is a highly automated team using continuous integration with model, integration, and system tests to build a high quality product while maintaining a high velocity. You will be joining a team that is going through a period of high growth and where you will have responsibility to:

•  Design our clients internal product related API's to support the React Front End and Mobile clients.
•  Design external API's to support new Insurance and OEM clients as well as partners.
•  Develop a consistent, well documented, tested and performant Rails API.
•  Ability or past experience leading a small team of engineers and being a go to person for technical questions and issues.

Skills & Experience

•  You enjoy working at small companies and building systems from the ground up
•  You have 4+ years of experience building backend software, preferably API based
•  You have experience leading, planning and executing projects from concept to delivery
•  You have experience working in partnership with product as well as QA teams.
•  You have deep understanding of API design and best practices
•  You have extensive Rails experience
•  Experience with GraphQL (desirable)
•  Optimisation experience at the DB and Application layer (desirable)
•  CS or Engineering related Degree (desirable)
